Scott Cawley have undertaken a range of types of environmental assessment for private sector clients.
Scott Cawley have undertaken EIA work for a range of large scale developments and have coordinated the preparation of the EIS documentation. Unlike other EIA management companies, Scott Cawley undertake a great deal of site survey work and hence have an in-depth knowledge of how environmental issues interact in reality, how effective EIA management can take place with the clients’ and consultees’ objectives in mind and therefore how to produce a design and impact assessment that allows sustainable development to proceed through the planning system.
All EIA management and EIS coordination and editing work is undertaken to achieve compliance with the relevant legislative requirements and EPA EIA Guidelines. International best practice in Impact Assessment is also followed in accordance with advice from the International Association for Impact Assessment (www.iaia.org).
This UK standard is becoming increasingly adopted in Ireland for buildings and more complex developments to ensure that environmental sustainability is at the heart of the design and construction process. Scott Cawley have unique experience in Ireland as BREEAM ecologists and are able to use BREEAM tools to assess impacts on land use and ecology in accordance with the specified scoring systems.
Whilst project-based EIAs focus on detailed assessment of site-specific impacts, strategic environmental assessment adopts a higher-level approach to assessing the potential impacts of plans and programmes (usually public sector) and ensuring that the final adopted action reflects the best environmental option. The Partners are unique in Ireland in having knowledge and experience of the SEA process stretching back to its earliest origins in Europe. As a result, the Partners have been asked to lecture and provide expert advice on SEA procedures and SEA Report Review by local authorities in Ireland. Due to the strict legalities of the process and its integration into the development planning system, the need to undertake both compliant and effective SEAs is becoming a priority in Ireland.
Partners at Scott Cawley have provided Expert Witness Services to Oral Hearings in Ireland for several high-profile projects. Such services require high levels of integrity and careful preparation of Proofs of Evidence. Staff have also been trained in cross-examination.
Staff at Scott Cawley have undertaken environmental due-diligence audits for a range of sectors in Ireland. These include Pharmaceutical, Waste Management, light electronic and mineral extraction facilities for acquisition and divestiture scenarios.
