To meet our growing business needs and future development aspirations, Scott Cawley is seeking talented Principal Ecologists, Senior Ecologists and Senior Consultant Ecologists to join our team of experts. Principal Ecologist & Senior Ecologist

Principal Ecologist

As a Principal Ecologist with 8-10years experience you will be a natural leader and manager who finds satisfaction in team development and fostering a positive culture.  You will leverage your technical expertise to deliver a robust ecology service to our clients. You will also establish and maintain excellent technical standards within the company and grow our ecology skills within our team. This senior role involves strategic planning, client liaison, project management, and technical delivery, ensuring high-quality outcomes that meet client needs and regulatory requirements. This role will assist with growing our service offering, enhancing our existing portfolio and reinforcing our reputation as a market leader. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on technical excellence, teamwork, autonomy and development of others.

Senior Ecologist

As a Senior Ecologist with a minimum of 5 years experience in ecological consultancy, you will have a range of responsibilities that will make full use of your skillset. You will provide comprehensive ecological consultancy services across the island of Ireland, managing  medium to large scale projects including designing, delivering and leading on large-scale ecological survey programs, managing, co-ordinating, mentoring and leading more junior staff, delivery of a full suite of consultancy report, and ensuring the efficient delivery of projects on time and within budget. This role requires a proactive and hands-on approach, strong technical skills in ecology and the ability to work with a range of stakeholder.

Senior Consultant Ecologist

As a Senior Consultant Ecologist, with 4+ years’ experience, you will play a key role in conducting ecological surveys, data digitisation and analysis, writing and contributing to ecological reports. As well as all of the above and you may design, supervise and manage ecological survey programmes and undertake more complex or specialist ecological surveys. More experienced individuals will also manage projects and clients. You will work closely with a team of professionals in-house but also externally on our projects, contributing to the development and implementation of projects that protect and restore biodiversity.

Responsibilities

  • Design, supervise and manage ecological survey programmes.
  • Conduct ecological surveys, including application of basic and standard survey techniques (i.e., multi-disciplinary, habitats, invasive species, mammals, bats, breeding and winter birds).
  • Collate, analyse and interpret survey data as well as digitisation and mapping survey results.
  • Prepare non-complex ecological reports including write up of some or all of the following report types; baseline ecological surveys, AA screening reports, preliminary ecological assessment and derogation licence applications/returns.
  • Contribute to part of more complex reports such as ecological impact assessment and biodiversity chapters of EIARs.
  • Manage projects of an appropriate scale relevant to ability and level of experience.
  • Manage and liaise with people outside of the company including clients, design team members, sub-contractors, statutory consultees etc.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • An honours degree in ecology, natural science or a related biological discipline. A postgraduate degree will be advantageous but not essential.
  • 4+ years’ experience.
  • Good field identification skills in at least one area (e.g. botany, birds, mammals) and experience conducting ecological surveys
  • Membership of CIEEM at the appropriate grade.
  • Full driving licence, use of car and availability to travel throughout Ireland including overnights away from home
